Favorite Friday- A Favorite Edmonton Photographer

For the first favorite Friday back on the blog I chose someone who I think seriously just rocks my world. Nicole Ashley is not only a super star behind the lens but is also a great friend. Why do I love Nicole’s work so much? Well for one, us Nicole’s have to stick together. And for two, just have a look over at her page https://www.facebook.com/nicashleyphoto and see for yourself. The one aspect of Nicole’s work that I admire is her boudoir. Boudoir is a type of photography that is hard to nail.  I can count on one hand my favourite boudoir photographers (there are actually only 3 of them, Nicole being one). You need to know how to work with all body types, be comfortable and confident. There are many boudoir photographers out there but something about Nicole’s unique poses and classic editing stands out to me. So I took some time to chat with her and here is a few things she had to say.

How far in advance should clients be looking to contact you if they want to book a session?

Clients should book a couple of months in advance for booking- (you should give yourself at least 1-2 months before you would want the images ready (from shoot time).

What is it about boudoir that you love so much?

I love boudoir because I love making women feel good. I love being able to showcase their beauty through simple photographs. Boudoir is so much more than a vanity photo shoot. I see all kinds of women walk through my door-women of all ages, sizes and walks of life. Boudoir is so much more than getting pretty photos of yourself. As women, we go through our entire lives being taught to hate our bodies and ovsess about our imperfections. We are taught that if we have too many curves we’re too fat, but we don’t have enough we are too thin. We are led to belive that no Hollywood starlet has cellulite and that we all ought to strive to squeeze into size 2. We are told that our age defines us, and our body limits us, and the more we accept these things, the greater the pieces of ourselves we lose to feelings of unworthiness and shame. Life is too short to let anyone or any source manipulate yourself worth.

Nicole has an innate way of making women of all ages, size, and shape feel beyond amazing behind the camera. Not to mention the amazing team Nicole works with. She recently worked with an awesome crew and made a video describing how incredible they all are. Check that out here http://www.nicoleashley.ca/about/
