I tried.I failed.but at least I tried

One thing I can for sure say in photography is that I will always try. I give it my all and 100% try until I reach a point where I decide, it just isn’t working. Thank god that never happened with weddings but it has definitely happened with studio photography.

Back when I lived in Medicine Hat I tried the newborn thing. I just had a baby of my own so I really thought I could relate and make it work. So I did casting calls, I booked sessions and I shoot a good two handfuls of newborns. Some sessions were a breeze and some…well…they were not. I found it really hard scheduling when my husband worked out of town. The sessions were long and hot. There was a lot of pee and poop and it just was not the glamorous world like wedding photography is to me. Don’t get me wrong, newborns are one of the worlds wonders and are miracles to me. BUT, that does not mean my heart is in it to photograph them.

So I stopped for a few months while we put our lives on hold, packed up and waited for our home to be built in Edmonton.

I had big hopes and dreams for my space in our new house. I wanted our beautiful naturally lit bonus room to be my office, client meeting area and studio when I needed it. I wanted to offer lifestyle newborn sessions there and kids mini sessions around the holidays. So again, I did this. I shot a few here and there. Figured out the light and space but I just was not feeling it.

I don’t know what it is about 4 walls that discourages me but it literally takes every creative bone out of my body and I freeze. Ideas are gone. The way I use natural light goes away. I have no clue, but it is exhausting. I had ideas and visions and just could not make them come to life. I am going to just say I strive outdoors with nature and light. That’s all I can sum this up as.

I also need to say, I think if you are a photographer you should be fabulous at what you do. Meaning it should be the best of the best. When it comes to newborns, I truly think it is an art. Something you blow up huge and display in your house. Something that is perfected and absolutely amazing. I could not offer that, but there are tons of local photographers that can, if you need a referral I am happy to give you tons of names.  So I will leave that amazing talent to them and stop trying haha.

So I tried..I failed..and I am totally fine with that.

Now onto the next project. If you know me at all you will know how excited this makes me. This big beautiful bonus room that we have will now be the Pinterest inspired client meeting space/office that I always wanted. I cannot wait to put things together and make it so girly it’s not even funny.

So stay tuned for that. Oh, and to those of you that helped me try these things out, THANK YOU. I am growing and learning every day, still 7 years later, and would not be here without you.

Thank You!

(here are a few of my visions for my room. Mint, gold, pink, grey white mmmmm so much goodness)
